Summary This position is located in the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS).
This job is open to - Career transition (CTAP, ICTAP, RPL) Federal employees who meet the definition of a "surplus" or "displaced" employee.

Duties - Develops and maintains the scripts and processes required to extract, transform, review and move data and metadata through the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) database of record.
- Explores new technologies and techniques to create efficient process around data extraction, loading, transformation, governance, and cataloguing.
- Serves as an advisor to Bureau statisticians in solving complex and far-reaching data management issues and problems for a wide range of systems, applications and customers that use statistical methods and techniques.
- Leverages innovative project management methodologies (e.g., scaled Agile framework) to complete projects within a complex environment that requires coordination with multiple stakeholders across multiple organizations.
- Develops standard queries, reports and presentations that translate complex analytics concepts, findings and limitations into plain language for nontechnical audiences.
- Develops algorithms and tools to support data manipulation and processing as well as the use of data visualization techniques to articulate findings.
- Conducts planning, development, implementation, and administration of systems for the acquisition, storage, and retrieval of data.
- Ensures that product-related training and documentation are developed and made available to customers before related projects are completed.
- Analyzes feasibility studies, proposals and in-depth analyses of current requirements and forecast trends for future needs.

Qualifications Basic Entry Requirements :
Degree : Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.
-OR- Combination of education and experience : Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
Specialized Experience: Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level. Specialized experience is experience which is in or related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Examples of specialized experience include:
- Documenting Extract Transform Load (ETL) data mappings, data dictionaries, processes, programs, and solutions per established data governance standards;
- Designing methods to develop and manage large, complex, structured and unstructured datasets;
- Identifying the methods, processes, algorithms, tools, and systems to extract and interpret findings from various structured and unstructured data sets related to the data lifecycle;
- Developing visualizations of data that can easily be comprehended and simplified for non-technical stakeholder audiences;
- Directing internal and external processing or system reviews, studies, projects and data validation efforts as a means to evaluate system performance and vulnerabilities.

- This position has a duty station of Washington, D.C. The selectee will be required to physically report to the OJP office building at least four (4) days per bi-weekly pay period and may incorporate leave and official travel plans into this reporting requirement. The office director or supervisor may request the selectee's presence in the office more frequently, as determined by the needs of the office. The selectee will be responsible for covering all commuting-related travel expenses. OJP employees are eligible for one transportation benefit - parking or the Department of Justice (DOJ) transit subsidy.
