Salary: $16/hr - $25/hr depending on certifications and years of experience

Scope-Purpose

A  dental assistant  in the state of Missouri may perform basic supportive dental procedures under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist.

Education/Experience

Dental Assistant Certificate from an accredited school or 2 years dental assisting experience is required.

Nitrous Oxide certificate preferred.

Expanded Functions certificates preferred.

Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

• Receive and prepare patients for treatment including seating, positioning chair, placing napkin and reviewing pertinent information prior to starting treatment. 
• Prepare and arrange needed tools and instruments for scheduled procedures in all hygiene rooms to maintain pt. flow. This Includes hygienist trays, stocking, filling water tanks and making pt. bags.
• Start on any hygiene pt. waiting with x-rays, prophy, exam, charting existing, reviewing Health history, taking blood pressure. Notify hygienist of pt. need of scaling.
• Finish appointment with patient to allow hygienist to move to another room. Polish, floss, review treatment plan, apply fluoride, complete exam with the Dr., provide pt. education and oral hygiene instructions.
• Follow current infection control protocols for disinfection and sterilization of rooms, instruments and equipment.
• Recognize basic medical and dental emergencies
• Follow the direction of the dentist and hygienist.
• Complete notes and charge slips in a timely manner. 
  
• Take digital x-rays.
• Using four-handed dentistry, assist with dental procedures, complete charting electronically, provide patient preventive education and oral hygiene instruction.
• Display good customer service, communication and office teamwork.

Work hours : full-time hourly position, approximately 40 hours per week and benefit eligible. Clinic Hours are 8:00am to 6:00pm Monday through Friday although a 4-day workweek is typical for this position. Hours subject to adjust based on needs of the community. This position may be scheduled to work any of the days the clinic is open (Monday through Friday)

Travel between clinic sites and out of town events or trainings maybe required.
